The Hmäe Sün Näe Ti Cengkhü Nu are the tattoo-faced ladies of the Lai Tu Chin tribe in western Myanmar. In February 2016, I set out to create the world’s first book specifically about their people and culture. I spent three weeks living in their villages along the Laymro River in Rakhine State, Myanmar. During this time, I met and photographed 100 ladies, and spoke with village elders about their culture and history. The book was originally funded via Kickstarter and will be available from November in hotels in Yangon and Mrauk U, as well as at selected bookstores in Yangon, and on this site. All proceeds from the sale of the book go towards providing clean drinking water and education for the Lai Tu Chin people.
