Portrait of Lereme Diga, a Kui woman from Odisha, India. The Kui are a scheduled tribe in the countryside of Odisha. Only Kui women were tattooed and the reasons for it have been lost with time. Unlike many of the minorities of India, the Kui have only recently gained access to the national education system and many do not speak Oriya, Hindi, or English. With their tribal language being the only one spoken, their traditions are somewhat preserved, but not much is known about them in the outside world.

This print comes signed and packaged with a certificate of authenticity detailing the stories I was told by her during my visit.
